Part time Senior Communications Officer required by a leading UK wide membership body to assist the Head of Marketing and Communications in providing a comprehensive communications service to the organisation.

Applicants should have experience of working within a communications, press office or other media role, have experience of placing articles in national and regional print, broadcast and electronic media, as well as excellent experience of using social media as a tool to support a communications plan.

This is a permanent, part time role, working 3 days per week (ideally Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday) - salary £37,000 pro rata plus excellent benefits. This role is based at the City of London Headquarters.

Core duties of the Senior Communications Officer include:

" Assist the Head of Department and develop an action plan for the implementation of the communications strategy which will include developing a strategic overview of the external media environment and how best to target our efforts and identifying and establishing good relationships with target media
" Provide professional advice on media queries, media protocols and advice on how to manage the media including advising the Chief Executive or other spokespeople on messaging and tactics for interviews
" Build relationships with key journalists and editors of national media and sell in press releases
" Work with Head of Communications and Marketing to develop messaging for key policy and research reports and the communications components of corporate projects and programmes
" Manage the contract with our media database providers and maintain media lists
" Draft and clear press notices and statements for colleagues as appropriate with assistance from the team
" Promote the views of the organisation across a wide range of media and social media outlets, including writing articles, placing editorial, horizon scanning and exploiting opportunities for proactive and positive as well as reactive coverage, to ensure our key audiences are aware of the positive role of the planning profession and the business across a wide range of issues through the media
" Contribute to the communications aspects of the marketing and communications plans for key events
" Co-ordinate communications activity across the nations and regions through regular telephone conference calls and planning, taking primary responsibility for the nations
" Lead in the monitoring and evaluation of media coverage and communications campaigns
